West Central Wrestling Week 3
The Trojan wrestlers traveled to Rensselaer this past Saturday for Rensselaer’s Super 8 Invite. The wrestlers were looking forward to a good day, because the last two weeks had been pretty rough for us.
The 8 teams competing were Rensselaer, Lewis Cass, South Newton, Cardinal Ritter, River Forest, West Lafayette, Hebron and ourselves. This is a very important day for us as we only see Sectional opponents Lewis Cass, Rensselaer, and former Midwest Conference foe South Newton at this meet.
As always we started out the day with Lewis Cass. They jumped out to a 48-0 lead on three pins and five forfeits. Even though at that point we couldn't win the meet, we won four out of the last six matches to get to a final score of 59-21.
The next meet was against Rensselaer. This was the battle of the forfeits. We gave them five forfeits and they gave us two before anyone even stepped on the mat to wrestle an opponent . Of the five matches were going to wrestle we won four of those. We were down 36-30 with the last two matches coming up and we received two forfeits so we won 42-36.
The South Newton Rebels were up next. We gave up three forfeits and won 61-18.
We were 2-1 in our pool, we had to wrestle the second place team out of the other pool which was River Forest. We jumped out to a good lead of 28-11, then we lost our focus a little and gave up three pins making the score 29-28, with them in the lead. The last two matches had us trading six-point wins and we came up short 35-34.
We ended the day with a very good win over Hebron 39-24. With that, we ended the day with a 3-2 record. This puts our record for the season at 9-12.
We had three wrestlers who were undefeated for the day, Collin Fritz, Kirkland Bushong, and Dalton Sizemore.
The Trojans travel to Michigan City on the 22nd for their six-way meet.
