West Central Wrestling
The Trojans Grapplers traveled to New Prairie for their 10 team Invite. Teams participating were Culver Community, Boone Grove, Fairhaven, New Prairie, Triton, Fort Wayne South Side, Goshen, Plymouth, Mishawaka Marian, and ourselves.
We started out the day with our Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe Culver Community. They had five wrestlers, and out of the four, we wrestled we won three of those matches. We gave them two forfeits, they gave us five, with that we cruised to a good win 45-18.
Next up for us was Plymouth. They are a very tough team and one of the best teams we will see this season. We split the first two matches, then the Rockies went on eight match winning streak, Collin Fritz was able to pick up a pin in the last match to finish us out. The final score was 53-9.
Our next opponent was Goshen. We wrestled them earlier in the season at West Lafayette Harrison. The really good thing wrestling a very tough team twice in one season is that you see the improvement you are making. Even we didn’t win again, we wrestled them much better than the last time, and much better than the final score of 58-16 would show.
Next, up we had Boone Grove from Valparaiso. They were a much-improved team from last year. We were down 33-21 with just 4 matches to go. We won all four to win 39-33.
The last meet of the day was with Fort Wayne South Side. We won three out of the first four matches, and two out of the three last matches to get a good win, 36-18.
Once again I was very proud the way the boys wrestled after having a 15-day break in our schedule. With our 3-2 record for the day, our record for the season stands at 16-15. Kirkland Bushong, Bryce Shepperd, Kay Allen, and Brandon Stevens were all 4-1 for the day.
The next week has us at North Newton on the 10th. We will celebrate Senior Night against Knox at home on the 12th, 6:00 PM start time. On the 14th we travel to Rochester for their Super 8 Invite.
