The Trojan wrestlers traveled to Logansport for the Individual Regional competition last Saturday. The six wrestlers who qualified were Camron Neeley at 126, Collin Fritz at 138, Kirkland Bushong at 145, Dalton Sizemore at 152, Bryce Shepperd at 170, and Brandon Stevens at 195.
Camron Neeley started us out up against Cody Betourne of West Lafayette Harrison. Camron wrestled him earlier in the season and unfortunately, the outcome was the same as the first time. Camron lost ending what was a very good Freshman season for him.
Collin Fritz was up next and was up against Drew Linder from McCutcheon. These two also met earlier in the season with Collin losing a close by only 3 points. Collin wrestled very well but the outcome was nearly the same as the last time they wrestled, with Collin losing 3-1.
Kirkland Bushong had Josh Guffey of Rossville next. Kirkland fought hard but lost a close one 4-2 to end his season. Kirkland ends his career with a very impressive 125-34 record.
Dalton Sizemore was up next with Clay Jones of Lafayette Jeff. Dalton fought hard but lost to the eventual Champion of the 152 weight class to end his season.
Bryce Shepperd was up next against Chase Wilber of Delphi. Bryce was able to get a pin to move on to the semi-finals. With this win, Bryce also qualified for Semi-State next week.
Brandon Stevens had Joey Kidwell of West Lafayette. Brandon wrestled well, but in the end was overpowered and lost.
In the semi-finals, Bryce was up against Ethan Ladd of Rossville who had an impressive record of 27-1. Bryce wrestled really well and came up just short losing 12-10. In the consolation round, Bryce wrestled Coler Carden of Lewis Cass. Bryce secured a quick pin putting him in 3rd place for the day.
A disappointing day with only 1 out of 6 qualifying for Semi-State, but the bright side is that 4 out of the 5 who didn’t make it will be back next year.
Semi-State will be at East Chicago next week with a 10:00 AM start.
