West Central High School
Caston High School
Game 1 of the season had the West Central Trojans visiting the Caston Comets. The first half was a defensive struggle as the score at halftime was 0-0. The second half opened with Caston having the ball and taking a majority of the time off the clock, but unable to score. The Trojans took over and had miscues on the position that lead to them being backed up inside the 3 yard line, from which they punted the ball away.
The Comets took over inside the 30 yard line after the Trojans punted the ball away. A few plays later, and the Comets broke the scoreless tie. On the next Trojan possession the Comets came up with an interception that they returned to inside the 10. A few short plays later and the Comets were once again in the endzone and where now up 13-0.
In the fourth quarter the Trojans mounted a comeback and got on the board when Brayden Kletz threw a pass to Cameron Pratt. The two connected on the 2-point conversion to now make the score 13-8.
Later in the fourth the Trojans stopped the Comets on defense and forced a punt. After the punt the Trojans took possession at the 4 yard line. During that possession the Trojans did not move the ball. On fourth down there was a bad snap, that Cameron Pratt picked up and ran 41 yards, and gave new life to the Trojans. The Trojans were able to get another first down, but turned to ball over on downs in Comet territory.
The Trojans forced one more stop on defense with around 1 minute to go in the game. However, the offense was unable to move the ball and was intercepted. The Comets took a knee to end the game.
